Important WPYF & LMAA Season Update 8/5/2020

Thank you for your continued patience and support of our youth football program.  We are happy to announce that we will be proceeding with our 2020 season!  Please read the information below and find the  LMAA Return to Play Guidelines and Preparedness Plan (Above) that allow us to move forward with our season.

  • LMAA has been planning and working on its Return to Play Guidelines and Preparedness Plan since May
  • On Friday, July 31, this plan was reviewed and endorsed by two senior Epidemiologists with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the Commissioner for Youth Sport (Mr. Tarek Tomes)
  • Tuesday, August 4th, the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) announced that high school football would be moving to the spring of 2021
    • There are a few key differences between high school football and youth football that allow us to be able to move forward:
      • Youth Football, in MN, does not fall under the MSHSL governance
      • We do not have locker rooms
      • We do not provide bussing
      • We do not have large crowds at our games
      • Team rosters are much smaller, typically 14-22 players per team depending on the grade level
      • In Wayzata, we are working on practice field planning to aid in separation/distancing for each team
      • LMAA has a very solid Return to Play Guideline and Preparedness Plan that has been reviewed and endorsed by MDH and the Commissioner for Youth Sports
      • LMAA has had extensive legal review and assistance with our outside counsel
  • On Wednesday, August 5th, the LMAA Board of Directors voted unanimously in favor of proceeding with the 2020 Football season.
    • The Tackle football season will aim to allow each team to play 6 total games for the season.
      • 6 games may not be attainable if a grade level within the league has an odd number of teams
      • Game 1 will be scheduled for the week of August 31st
      • Games 2-6 will be scheduled beginning September 11/12 for Saturdays, with the possibility of some games being played on Friday night depending on field availability across the league
      • It is unlikely that there will be any make-up/rescheduled games, but we will continue to look into options
    • The Flag football season will proceed as planned beginning August 18th
      • Due to construction and COVID planning the flag football location will be moved to Wayzata East Middle School
      • Because of this change we will be forced split our programing, by grade, to run on Monday/Wednesdays and Tuesday/Thursdays
        • Final decisions on which grade will be playing on which nights will be communicated later this week.
  • 6TH, 7TH, and 8th Grade Player Evaluations and Equidraft will proceed as scheduled for Monday, Aug. 10 and Tuesday, Aug 11.
  • ALL TACKLE 1ST TEAM PRACTICES WILL MOVE TO MONDAY, AUGUST 17
  • Return to Play Guidelines and Preparedness Plan key points:
    • READ AND UNDERSTAND THE LMAA  RETURN TO PLAY GUIDLINES & PREPAREDNESS PLAN (ABOVE)
    • If you have symptoms stay away
    • Any individual who has a close contact/exposure (defined with detail in the attached) with someone who has tested positive for COVID 19 are required to self-isolate for 14 days
    • Any individual who tests positive for COVID 19 will be required self-isolate and avoid sports participation until they can provide a note from their health care provider releasing them for full participation
    • An individual who has experienced a Close Contact/Exposure and/or COVID 19 positive test must immediately notify their home association.  We will NOT publicize any Personal Health Information!
    • IT IS CRITICAL THAT WE ALL DO OUR PART TO FOLLOW THIS PREPAREDNESS PLAN FOR THIS SEASON TO HAPPEN!

Our Mission:  We are committed to providing an opportunity for as many children as possible to participate in football under the rules of the league.

As we kick-off the season, know your athletes are in good hands.  Our coaches do a great job as volunteers developing our players.
